The Horse Society of Botswana, as the governing body for equestrian sports in Botswana, is dedicated to promoting and supporting the equestrian community throughout the country. We aim to foster a deep connection between horse and rider through education, competition, and community. Our society brings together horse lovers of all ages and skill levels, providing opportunities to participate in a wide range of disciplines including dressage, endurance, show jumping, showing, and western mounted games. Through our commitment to upholding the highest standards of horse welfare and horsemanship, we strive to develop excellence in sport while nurturing a vibrant, inclusive equestrian culture.
The HSB is affiliated to the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC), the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC), the African Confederation of Equestrian Sport (ACES) and the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI).

HSB Disciplines
Western mounted games consist of fast-paced events like barrel racing and pole bending. They test the horse’s speed and agility, as well as the rider’s control, and are a competitive way to showcase horse-rider teamwork.
Show jumping challenges horse and rider to complete a course of jumps within a set time. It tests the horse’s agility, speed, and the rider's control, with penalties for knocked obstacles or exceeding time limits.
In showing, horses are judged on conformation, movement, and presentation. The discipline emphasises the horse’s beauty and manners, with classes tailored to different breeds and riding styles, both in hand and under saddle.
Endurance riding involves long-distance races, testing the horse’s stamina and the rider’s pacing ability. Races cover up to 100 km, with horse health monitored throughout to ensure they remain fit to continue.
Dressage is the art of horse training, where horse and rider perform a series of precise, controlled movements. It focuses on the harmony between them and is judged on grace, fluidity, and responsiveness to subtle cues.
